The senior center also participates in many intergenerational programs throughout the year. These programs give seniors and other generations the chance to interact and stay connected as a community.
Newborn Welcome – Each newborn in the town receives a welcome package that includes a handmade knitted hat or booties and poems. Along with it, we include a copy of our newsletter to let others in the community know what is available at our center.
Pen Pals – For the past three years including this one, the seniors and students at Summer Street Elementary School have been writing to each other as Pen Pals. The groups exchange several letters during the school year and then meet each other at a reception in the late spring.
Book Club – The senior center’s book club, Lit Wit’s, and the Lynnfield Middle School participate in a joint reading of a book. The groups come together for a discussion and intergenerational sharing of the principles and values found in the book.
Scouting Awards – The senior center is proud to have sponsored several Boy and Girl Scouts pursuing advanced Eagle and Gold Awards. This is another opportunity for the youth of our community to interact, help and learn from the seniors in our community.
